The 16-Hour On-The-Job (NYS Security Guard) Training Course is designed to provide individuals with the necessary knowledge and skills to become licensed security guards in the state of New York. The course covers a range of topics related to security procedures, legal responsibilities, and emergency response protocols. This 16-Hour course must be completed before starting a security guard job.

CEU Requirements 

  1. 100% attendance for the 16-Hour On-The-Job (NYS Security Guard) Training Class
  2. Completion of Continuing Education and Training Registration Form
  3. Active participation in all class exercises (determined by course instructor)
  4. Completion of required pre-and post-quiz assessment
  5. As applicable, achievement of minimum passing score on required end-of-course examination
  6. Participation and submittal of end-of-course evaluation form (must provide name on form to receive credit)

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this 16-Hour On-The-Job (NYS Security Guard) Training, the student will be able to: 

  • Learn about relevant laws and regulations governing security operations in New York State. 
  • Respond effectively to various emergency situations, including fires, medical emergencies, and criminal incidents. 
  • Learn how to conduct patrols and observations effectively to detect and deter security threats. 
  • Know the importance of effective communication in security operations. 
  • Identify the principles of using force in security situations, including when and how it is appropriate to use physical or verbal interventions to protect themselves or others.
  • Learn how to write clear, concise, and objective reports that can be used for legal or administrative purposes.
  • Explain the fire safety regulations and procedures.
